UNDERGANG to zespół, którego nie ma sensu przedstawiać i rozpisywać się o nich we wstępie. Ugruntowana pozycja w podziemiu Death Metalu to jedno, ale doskonałe wydawnictwa, które zespół systematycznie wydaje od ponad piętnastu lat to druga sprawa. Od pierwszej kasety promo z 2009 roku, po zeszłoroczną Epkę, to najzwyczajniej jedna wielka podróż przez świat horroru pełnego strumieni krwi, śmierci w swych najpaskudniejszych obliczach i choroby dźwięków. I miało być bez wstępu, a tu proszę – przejdźmy zatem do zawartości ‘De syv stadier af fordærv’.
Pierwszy utwór, pierwsze dźwięki i od razu zostajemy powaleni niesamowicie potężną produkcją. Każdy z instrumentów brzmi z osobna z charakterem, a w całokształcie owe piękno na swój pokręcony sposób wyłania ohydny łeb w jeszcze bardziej patologicznym grymasie zadowolenia. Ciężar, ale też i przestrzeń utworów to istotna sprawa tychże kompozycji. Brzmienie jest selektywne, jednakże nie zostało pozbawione fetoru śmierci. Riffy są iście bagniste, jakby zanurzone w sadzawce wypełnionej trupami z gnijącym mięsem, które odpada od kości i rozkłada się pod mętną wodą. Chorobliwe melodie, ohydne zwolnienia, przepotężne partie perkusji, bulgot basu, a wszystko to by przenieść słuchacza w krainę mroku wypełnioną po brzegi klimatem gore.
Aranżacje są szczelne, dopracowane i posiadają w cholerę pasji, elementu bardzo rozpoznawalnego dla muzyki Duńczyków. Zdecydowanie, mimo stylistyki w jakiej porusza się UNDERGANG, słychać tu ciągły rozwój. Charakterystyczny groove pełen flaków pozostał po dziś dzień w muzyce zespołu, ale pojawiły się też elementy, które służą za budowanie nastroju, nawet napięcia u słuchacza przed tym, co ma nastąpić. To, jak i burza innych pomysłów, zostały spakowane do jednego worka i podane nam w postaci sześciu utworów, trwających nieco ponad dwadzieścia minut.
Wraz z wydaniem ‘De syv stadier af fordærv’, zespół powrócił też do bardziej bezpośrednich, chaotycznych, blastujących partii. O ile słuchaliście ostatniego splitu z Spectral Voice wydanego tuż przed omawianą Epką, to zauważyć można było, że UNDERGANG udał się w rejony wolniejszych kompozycji, które rozwijały się ewentualnie do środkowych, umiarkowanych prędkości. Na tym wydawnictwie, zespół puścił *censored* hamulca i rozpędza się w odpowiednich momentach do zawrotnych temp. Pojawi się też całkiem spora ilość d-beatów, dzięki czemu nasz soundtrack do obrzydliwości osiągnie swój pełen potencjał plus inspiracje pierwszym i drugiem albumem Carcass są nadal obecne. A odgłos roju much otwierający i zamykający przedostatniostatni utwór, to wspaniałe podsumowanie zawartości tego materiału oraz podkreślenie zawartości obrazu zdobiącego owe wydawnictwo. Tak więc, to by było na tyle. Polecać nie muszę, albowiem wiadomo, że to klasa sama w sobie.

Danish Death Metal legends Undergang are showing no signs of slowing down, with a brand new EP featuring seven pieces of ugly rotten death coming soon via Me Saco Un Ojo Records and Dark Descent Records.
The band's signature mix of neanderthalic drumming and stringy phlegm-like riffs is instantly recognizable to any Death Metal fan. Equally so is David’s signature vomit-snarled vocals, all of which immediately will grip you with the fist of festering decay from the earliest points. Although primal and disgusting as ever, Undergang have always had a penchant for including gloomy moments betwixt their rot churning disdain. This new material has plenty of those disgusting dynamics which throw a superb stench into the air with remorseless instrumental fury and equally unsavory vocals, taking everything that made the Death Metal of old great and plunging it furiously into the carcass of today like a rusted knife designed to open seeping sores and spray pus forth upon all within the vicinity. The pulverizing putrescence does not relent…
From the slowest drudges to the grinding fury and all sonic sadism in between, Undergang’s newest offering is a viciously unpleasant and transfixing opus of odors most foul. Woefully brutal, most puny headbangers will simply die from the sheer weight of this thing if they try to lift it onto their turntable. Any remaining will be flattened by the brutal gut-opening session that they will be subjected to 20 minutes of. Although all of their albums contain nothing short of true magnificent monstrosities from start to end, the amount of diversity in this miniature tome of auditory violations is impeccable even by Undergang’s high standard. If you find yourself presented with this cacophony of rot, then be sure not to miss the opportunity to drown in the swampy sludge before you, it’s thrilling! If you can make it through all seven stages of depravity, then you must congratulate your own hardiness, then find yourself drawn back for more torture! So, all of the odious freaks out there, force-feed yourself this slab of sadism.
UNDERGANG is a band that it is pointless to introduce and elaborate on them in the introduction. An established position in the Death Metal underground is one thing, but the excellent releases the band has been steadily putting out for over fifteen years is another. From the first promo cassette in 2009, to last year’s EP, it’s simply one great journey through a world of horror full of streams of blood, death in its nastiest faces and sound sickness. And it was supposed to be without an introduction and here we are – so let’s get to the contents of 'De syv stadier af fordærv’.
The first track, the first sounds, and immediately we are knocked down by an incredibly powerful production. Each instrument sounds individually with character and as a whole these beauties in their own twisted way emerge a hideous head in an even more pathological grimace of satisfaction. The heaviness, but also the space of the tracks is an important matter of these compositions. The sound is selective, however, it has not been deprived of the fetor of death. The riffs are truly swampy, as if immersed in a pond filled with corpses with rotting flesh that falls off the bones and decomposes under the murky water. Sickening melodies, hideous slowdowns, surging drum parts, bubbling bass, all to transport the listener to a land of darkness filled to the brim with an atmosphere of gore.
The arrangements are tight, polished and have a hell of a lot of passion, an element very recognizable to the Danes’ music. Definitely, despite the style in which UNDERGANG moves, you can hear the constant development here. The characteristic groove full of guts has remained to this day in the band’s music, but there have also been elements that serve to build mood, even tension in the listener before what is to come. This, as well as a storm of other ideas, were packed into one bag and given to us in the form of six tracks, lasting just over twenty minutes.
With the release of 'De syv stadier af fordærv’, the band also returned to more direct, chaotic, blasting parts. If you listened to the last split with Spectral Voice released just prior to the EP in question, you may have noticed that UNDERGANG went into the realm of slower compositions that progressed possibly to the middle, medium speeds. On this release, the band lets off the brake pedal and unleashes at the right moments to dizzying tempos. There will also be quite a few d-beats, so that our soundtrack to abominations reaches its full potential plus the inspirations of the first and second Carcass albums are still present. And the sound of a swarm of flies that opens and closes the penultimate track is a great summary of the content of this material and highlights the image that decorates this release. So, that would be it. I don’t have to recommend it, for it is known that it is in a class of its own.
